Relaxation of Working Hours for Student Visa Holders<\/span><\/b>\u200b<\/span><\/p>\n

International students come to Australia to\u00a0receive\u00a0world class\u00a0<\/span>education. More than that, students come to experience the\u00a0<\/span>culture in\u00a0the land Down-Under. However, the student visa grant\u00a0<\/span>limits the working time\u00a0of students to 40 hours a fortnight.<\/span>\u200b<\/span><\/p>\n

When\u00a0COVID-19 pandemic\u00a0hits, the government\u00a0has rethought of\u00a0<\/span>this\u00a0limitation\u00a0and has eased\u00a0this restriction.\u00a0International\u00a0<\/span>students can now enjoy longer working hours\u00a0\u2013 that is more than\u00a0<\/span>40 hours a fortnight.\u00a0It is good to note, however,\u00a0that\u00a0this\u00a0<\/span>relaxation\u00a0of rule\u00a0is applicable to certain industries only.\u00a0<\/span>\u200b<\/span><\/p>\n

Industries in the flexible work hours\u200b<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0If you are a student,\u00a0you are\u00a0allowed\u00a0to work for more than 40\u00a0<\/span>hours a fortnight\u00a0if connected to\u00a0the following industries:<\/span>\u200b<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Aged care approved provider or Commonwealth-funded aged<\/span>care service provider\u00a0(students working here through recruitment<\/span>agency is included)<\/span>\u200b<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Registered National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)<\/span>provider\u00a0(students working here through recruitment agency is<\/span>included)<\/span>\u200b<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Supporting the health effort against COVID-19 (for health care<\/span>students)<\/span>\u200b<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Agriculture sector<\/span>\u200b<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Tourism and hospitality sector<\/span>\u200b<\/span><\/li>\n
  6. Supermarket, or associated distribution facility, located in an<\/span>area impacted by COVID-10 lockdown restrictions for the duration\u00a0<\/span>of the lockdown.<\/span>\u200b<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    \u200b<\/span>Conditions\u200b<\/strong><\/p>\n

    The students are to manage their studies and work effectively\u00a0<\/span>with the given flexibility in the work hours. Students are to\u00a0<\/span>continue their enrolled course, attend classes and pass the\u00a0<\/span>course\u00a0satisfactorily. Failing to do the commitments as a\u00a0<\/span>student\u00a0will be a breach to the student visa conditions.<\/span>\u200b<\/span><\/p>\n

    Covid-19 Pandemic Visa\u200b<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Students who have finished their course and are working in the\u00a0<\/span>mentioned\u00a0critical sectors\u00a0or have been offered to work in one of\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0stated\u00a0sectors are eligible for COVID-19 Pandemic visa. The\u00a0<\/span>student can apply for this visa 90 days before the\u00a0expiration of\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0student\u00a0visa. He or she must only have evidence of\u00a0<\/span>employment or offer of employment and that an Australian citizen\u00a0<\/span>or permanent resident cannot fill the position.<\/span>\u200b<\/span><\/p>\n

    Work longer, earn\u00a0and learn\u00a0better\u200b<\/strong><\/p>\n

    The flexibility to work longer\u00a0for\u00a0international students\u00a0is a\u00a0<\/span>welcomed\u00a0news. It gives much financial freedom, and more\u00a0<\/span>opportunity to\u00a0experience the working culture of Australia.\u00a0<\/span>Although this relaxation of restrictions is\u00a0limited to certain sectors,\u00a0<\/span>students can,\u00a0nevertheless,\u00a0enjoy this flexibility while finishing\u00a0<\/span>their courses in the land Down-Under.<\/span>\u200b<\/span><\/p>\n
